Actress Zoe Saldana shares her excitement and profound gratitude after nabbing her first-ever Golden Globe nomination for her role in the groundbreaking musical thriller, ‘Emilia Perez’.

Zoe Saldana expressed immense gratitude upon receiving her first-ever Golden Globe nomination for her role in “Emilia Perez.” She revealed that she immediately contacted her loved ones, including her husband, Marco Perego, and her mother, Asalia Nazario, to share the exciting news.

“It feels really overwhelmingly beautiful,” Saldaña told PEOPLE. “I’m really having an out-of-body experience and my heart is full of gratitude. It feels good to be recognized for the hard work that you put into something that you believe so much in.”

The award nominations acknowledged Jacques Audiard’s Spanish-language film with 10 nominations, including best supporting actress in a musical or comedy for Saldaña. The movie also received nods for best motion picture, director, screenplay, original score, and original song.

The 46-year-old actress also reached out to her nominated costars, Karla Sofia Gascon and Selena Gomez. “I left a message for Selena, I left a message for Karla immediately,” she said. “I’m just so proud of us. I’m so proud of them.”

Saldana emphasized the significance of her nomination as a symbol of representation. “I know this is something really special,” she explained. “That a girl who looks like me from Queens, New York can also win and is meant to reach just higher peaks of mountains. Anybody can do it.”

“Emilia Pérez,” which streams on Netflix, depicts Saldaña as a high-powered lawyer who aids a Mexican cartel leader in faking their death and transitioning into a woman. The 82nd annual Golden Globes will air live on Sunday, January 5, 2025.
