Princess Diana’s heartfelt letter commending the tailor of William and Harry has seen for first time
Prince William and Prince Harry feel a great sense of honour in showing respect and admiration for soldiers which is quite evident from their late mother’s touching letter.
The letter, which is accompanied by its handwritten envelope, was penned to an Army tailor who made soldier costumes for young William and Harry
A thank you letter Princess Diana penned to an Army tailor who made soldier costumes for young William and Harry could fetch £2,000 at auction.
In the note dated April 25, 1988, Diana praised Lance Corporal of Horse N Jones after he created the military fatigues for her boys.
Princes William and Harry were five and three respectively when the message, handwritten on Kensington Palace headed paper, was sent out.
It reads: “Dear Corporal Jones, I so wanted to write and thank you very much for making the combat trousers and jackets for William and Harry – you made them up extremely quickly and I can’t tell you how thrilled and excited they were.
“We have had great difficulty in removing their kit for such things as bathtime and ideally the boys would like to sleep as a soldier!!
“It was extremely kind of you to have gone to so much trouble and this comes with our warmest possible thanks from the three of us. Yours sincerely, Diana.”Conspicuously, Diana made no mention of her then husband, Prince Charles, when signing off.
The letter, which is accompanied by its handwritten envelope, will come up for sale on April 10 at John Nicholson’s Auctioneers with a guide price of £1,500-£2,000.
