‘The Charlie Puth Show’ will be released on The Roku Channel on Oct. 4
Get ready to experience a new level of unhinged with Charlie Puth.
On Tuesday, Sept. 24, PEOPLE is exclusively premiering the trailer for the singer-songwriter’s new show The Charlie Puth Show.
The trailer begins with Puth, 32, in a meeting where he’s told he needs to get back on the “cultural zeitgeist” by doing a reality show.
Then, the “We Don’t Talk Anymore” singer — who says he’s “never done something like this before” — gets several people to help him make the show “interesting” including Will Ferrell, Dorinda Medley, Courteney Cox and his best friend Mike.
Along the way, he also gets help from his new “Gen-Z” assistant and content creator Corporate Natalie as his “momager.”
Elsewhere in the trailer, Puth is tasked with writing a jingle for the show and he taps his good friend John Legend to help him out. He also debates writing a country album — and it doesn’t pan out so well.
The trailer concludes with a slight burn as Puth is sitting with a group of teenagers who ask who he’s toured with. At the end of the list is fellow pop star Shawn Mendes — and a teen says “Shawn Mendes is the better version of you.”
Per a synopsis, the show “follows Charlie as he attempts to scale the zeitgeist by going beyond pop stardom to become a multi-hyphenate talent after being told it’s no longer enough to just be a musician.”
“Featuring artists, comedians and icons from every area of the pop matrix, the famous faces that populate the show help Charlie to navigate his heightened reality where his career neurosis and musical perfectionism often gets in the way of his peace and sanity, ultimately parodying the very zeitgeist that Charlie’s trying to conquer,” the synopsis continues.
The six-episode series be released on The Roku Channel Oct. 4.
The Charlie Puth Show marks the first time the Grammy-nominated singer is at the center of a TV series. However, he did get some experience acting when he released a short film starring Sabrina Carpenter in March 2023 called That’s Not How This Works.
Meanwhile, his last musical release was a single called “Hero” in May.
“My new song HERO is about when you see someone you love hurting themselves, ruining the things in their life that are good, but you just can’t save them,” Puth — who married Brooke Sansone earlier this month — wrote on Instagram at the time. “It’s one of the hardest songs I’ve ever had to write, but I wrote it in hopes that you’ve gone through something similar in your life, and that it can fill in the BLANK for you like it did for me.”
“I’m very excited to share my next album with you, especially this song because it’s a great representation of what’s to come. I’ve never put out a song like this before- it’s very different for me, but I want to thank @taylorswift for letting me know musically that I just couldn’t keep this on my hard drive any longer,” he added of the “Cruel Summer” singer, who name dropped Puth on her latest album.
