The seven-time Super Bowl champion brought swimming to his rigorous workout routine
Retirement isn’t stopping Tom Brady from taking his workouts seriously.
Brady, 47, posted an Instagram on Monday, Sept. 23, revealing his workouts these days, including the surprising new addition of swimming.
The Fox Sports’ lead color commentator posed shirtless poolside on a plyometric box in the backyard of his Miami home. In the first picture, he’s smiling with his white Nobull drive mesh sneakers on the box near his weight and workout bands.
The second photo includes the seven-time Super Bowl champion freestyle swimming in the expansive pool. His final image captures him in the middle of his workout at the top of the box.
“Color analysts have to stay in shape too! Added some swimming into the workout routine this year… great muscle resistance and some aerobic cardio all at once,” he wrote in the caption.
Brady added his exact workout as well: “4×100 free; 4×25 fast, 25 recovery; 2×200 free; 20x Weighted step up; 20x Heavy resistance band pushup; 10x Box Jump; Repeat x4.”
Earlier this month, Brady’s former teammate Rob Gronkowski told PEOPLE that the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback’s lifestyle change since retiring is for the better. Brady retired after 23 seasons in the NFL for a second and final time in February 2023.
Gronk exclusively told PEOPLE on Sept. 3 that he has been surprised by “the way [Brady] has taken care of himself since being retired from football.”
“I think he’s in better shape than he was when he was playing,” Gronkowski, 35, said. “Every time I see him, he looks better and better. It’s just unbelievable how he pulls it off!”
“The guy just had a 23-year career and he’s still all over the place doing things, making people smile and throwing footballs with kids,” Gronkowski said.
Earlier this month, Brady made his broadcasting debut with Fox Sports, calling the Sept. 8 Dallas Cowboys-Cleveland Browns game. The Cowboys beat the Browns 33-17.
After the game, colleague Kevin Burkhardt asked Brady how it felt to have his first game as a commentator under his belt, Brady offered a positive response.
“I was using my arm and my body for so many years, and now I get to a stadium and I get to use my voice,” Brady responded.
“I might get out there tomorrow morning and throw some passes just to remember what it feels like. But as Michael Strahan told me in the pregame, ‘You’re going to wake up Monday morning and you aren’t going to be sore,’ and that I’m very happy about.”
