Taylor Swift announces ‘second installment’ of TTPD: ‘2am surprise’

Taylor Swift new album talks about heartbreaks, emotions and embracing love

Taylor Swift had another surprise up her sleeve, within two hours following the midnight announcement of The Tortured Poets Department.

It was revealed to fans in a surprise late-night announcement that the 34-year-old Grammy winner’s most recent body of work is a double album.

“It’s a 2am surprise: The Tortured Poets Department is a secret DOUBLE album. I’d written so much tortured poetry in the past 2 years and wanted to share it all with you, so here’s the second installment of TTPD: The Anthology. 15 extra songs. And now the story isn’t mine anymore… it’s all yours.” she wrote on Instagram.

For Swift’s intrepid readers, the release of The Tortured Poets Department has been a mysterious journey. Swift and Spotify worked together to create a pop-up exhibit in Los Angeles on April 16.

Fans were allowed to explore a space with a library theme that contained hints about the record, such as new lyrics and images that suggested potential material.

Before the album’s release, enigmatic murals began to appear across the United States. In Chicago, for example, one of the murals featured a QR code that led to a YouTube short on Swift’s official channel.

The short features the text Error 321, written in a font reminiscent of a typewriter, along with the number 13 underneath it.

Swift originally unexpectedly revealed that she was releasing her eleventh studio album during the 2024 Grammy Awards acceptance speech for Midnights, the best pop vocal album.
