Stephen Mulhern’s love life – soap star ex and Josie Gibson ‘romance’ Close down

Deal or No Deal host Stephen Mulhern doesn’t look to be dating anyone after ‘best friend’ Josie Gibson finally addressed speculation that the pair were together

Stephen Mulhern might be one of the most popular presenters on-screen, but he has been unlucky in love when it comes to his personal life.

The TV star became the new face of gameshow Deal or No Deal last year, taking over the role from Noel Edmonds, who fronted the show for 11 years before it was axed from Channel 4. “Deal Or No Deal was not only one of my favourite shows, it was my dad’s favourite show – when I told him I was doing it, it was like he’d won the lottery,” Stephen said of fronting the new format on ITV.

It’s not his only new gig for the channel as he also became the co-host for Dancing On Ice, filling the shoes of Phillip Schofield. Despite his mega-fame, not much is known about Stephen’s personal or romantic life away from the cameras.

The 47-year-old was recently rumoured to be with This Morning star Josie Gibson, after they were spotted holding hands earlier this month. Walking outside the studio on set of the final episode of Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway on April 13, Stephen and Josie, 39, looked cosy together.

Despite much speculation that the presenters were secretly dating, Josie set the record straight at the start of the week. Speaking to OK! Magazine, Josie shut down the dating rumours, insisting that she and Stephen were simply ‘best friends’.

The This Morning star said: “Stephen? Oh, he’s so lovely. We are really good friends, I really adore him, but there’s no romance in the air. But he’s so nice. Josie added: “Every bloke that I come in contact with, the press seems to think that I’m having it off with them.

“People must think I’m a right goer. I’m not like that. To be with somebody or to even kiss somebody, I’ve really got to love them. I’ve really got to really be into them. I can’t give my energy over when I’m not completely into it. You know when you get that magic connection?

“For me it only comes around like once every seven years or eight years. I love the love because those are very, very special [moments] when you find them.” While Stephen has kept his cards close to his chest when it comes to matters of the heart, his co-star romance with EastEnders star Emma Barton, who plays Honey Mitchell, has been well-documented.

Stephen and Emma, 46 first met after locking eyes on the set of a pantomime production of Snow White in 2008. Emma played Snow White while Stephen starred as her trusted best friend Muddles. It’s understood the pair formed a close bond shortly after working together. Like most celebrity couples, they kept their relationship out of the limelight but mutually decided to part ways in 2011.

The Britain’s Got More Talent host revealed the romance had come to a “natural end” and that he was still eager to find ‘the one’, and blamed his busy work schedule for getting in the way. In an interview with Celebs Now in 2018, he said: “Last time I went on a date was about four years ago. That makes me sound really sad! I need a life. I need to stop working so much.”
