Snoop Dogg reported to have earned $9million from Olympic appearances

Snoop Dogg is reported to have earned $9million from his Olympic appearances.

The California rapper had a big presence at Paris 2024, repeatedly finding himself in the spotlight over the two weeks in which the Games ran.

Among other things, he attended every major event at the summer sports spectacular, beginning by carrying the Olympic Torch through a Parisian suburb as part of the Opening Ceremony.

“I look at this as a prestigious honour and something that I truly respect,” he said in an interview just before taking to the streets. “I would have never dreamed of nothing like this.”

Following the Closing Ceremony, the broadcast switched to Santa Monica Beach, where Snoop was among a number of West Coast acts performing live in his hometown of Los Angeles, host city for the 2028 Olympics.

Regular rhyming partner Dr Dre also joined him on stage, marking the beginning of the next episode in the world’s biggest sporting event. The pair will release a new joint album in October.

Taking to Instagram on Friday 16th August, Snoop reshared a video breaking down each of his appearances in the French capital.

“This is the main star of the Paris Olympics. Snoop Dogg, a top rapper, gets over 40m rubles daily for his presence… [he] also lives and parties for free, all to bring more attention to the Olympics,” the video narration said. “Almost every top broadcast features Snoop. He attends all major Olympic events. For 17 Olympic days, he’ll earn nearly $9million.”

The video goes on to claim viewing figures for the Games were up 79% compared to previous years thanks to Snoop’s involvement. Although these facts are unsubstantiated, the BBC reports Paris 2024 garnered 218million online streams through iPlayer alone, breaking previous records. In the US, broadcast giant NBCU averaged 30.6million daily viewers across all platforms during prime time, up 82% on the preceding Tokyo 2020 Olympics (held in 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic).

However, there has been no official confirmation on the fee from Snoop, or his representatives. The projected payment is a slight increase on speculation prior to the Games starting, which suggested he could net $500,000 per day for his affiliation with Paris 2024.

“Sat next to an NBC exec at dinner, he said Snoop gets paid $500k a day plus expenses to be here promoting Olympics. From ‘Gin and Juice’ to a few million to be a celebrity at the Olympics — what a world,” wrote X user henrymcnamara.
