Rebecca Black talks ‘healing’ as she marks 14 years of ‘Friday’

Rebecca Black is gearing up for her upcoming album ‘Salvation’

Rebecca Black is reflecting on how far she’s come as she marks 14 years since her viral hit Friday.

The singer, now 27, opened up about her journey in a February 10 Totem cover story, revealing that her upcoming album, Salvation, represents “reclaiming confidence” and “coming home” to herself.

“It’s been a journey back to that sureness I had when I was younger,” she said. “It feels healing.”

Black also poked fun at the milestone, joking on X (formerly Twitter) that Friday is now older than she was when it came out. When Pop Base posted about the anniversary, she responded, “girl this video officially older than i was when it dropped,” adding, “old hag!”

At just 13, she faced relentless online bullying, including death threats, which led her to leave school and be homeschooled.

Despite the challenges, Black has stayed in music and is now focused on her own artistic vision. With Salvation, she’s embracing the confidence she once had. “It feels healing,” she reiterated
