Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, talks about bizarre Meghan Markle separation rumours at recent event
Prince Harry finally broke his silence on speculations surrounding his divorce from wife Meghan Markle while poking fun at the bizarre rumours.
Harry, the Duke of Sussex, laughed off the speculations when he was asked about them at the 2024 New York Times DealBook Summit.
In recent months, Harry and Meghan have appeared to be focusing on separate projects, with the Duke undertaking solo trips to the UK, New York, and South Africa, while the Duchess has been carrying out her own engagements in Los Angeles.
This prompted speculation that the Royals, who stepped down from their role as senior members of the British Royal family in 2020, are headed towards a divorce.
In a candid discussion with reporters at the event, Harry openly talked about the rumours when asked what was going on in his marital life with Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex.
“Apparently we’ve bought or moved house 10, 12 times,” he said with a laugh, “We’ve apparently divorced maybe 10, 12 times as well. So it’s just like, what?”
Harry didn’t seem to take the rumours about his marriage seriously, as reported by The Mirror. When asked why he and Meghan don’t often appear together at work events.
“Because you invited me, you should have known,” King Charles’ younger son quipped.
Taking a more serious tone, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet’s father said, “I’ve had a lived experience since I was a kid, I’ve seen stories written about myself that aren’t exactly based on reality.”
“I’ve seen stories about members of my family, friends, strangers, all sorts of people,” Prince Harry added. “And I think when you grow up within that environment, you do find yourself questioning the validity of the information but also what other people are thinking of that as well, and how dangerous it can be over the course of time.”
“The people I feel most sorry about are the trolls. Their hopes are just built and built, and it’s like, ‘Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,’ and then it doesn’t happen. So I feel sorry for them. Genuinely, I do.”
