Paul McCartney’s increasing fortune is attributed to various new projects over the last year
Sir Paul McCartney has achieved a remarkable milestone, reportedly becoming the first UK musician to reach billionaire status.
According to the Sunday Times’ Music Rich List, the former Beatle’s wealth has surged by £50 million this year, bringing his total net worth to £1 billion.
As per the List, composer Andrew Lloyd Webber ranks second with £515 million, while Rolling Stones frontman Sir Mick Jagger holds third place with £415 million.
McCartney, 81, had already claimed the top spot among musicians in 2023 with a fortune of £950 million, following £865 million in 2022.
This financial leap is attributed to the success of his 2023 Got Back Tour, the increasing value of his extensive music catalog, and Beyoncé’s cover of the Beatles’ Blackbird on her latest album, Cowboy Carter.
He also dropped the latest Beatles’ song, Now and Then, in November 2023. The track, which is dubbed “the last Beatles song” was written and recorded by John Lennon in 1977 but was never released.
Reflecting on this release, McCartney shared, “There it was, John’s voice, crystal clear. It’s quite emotional. And we all play on it, it’s a genuine Beatles recording.”
He further expressed his excitement about the continued relevance of Beatles music, saying, “In 2023, to still be working on Beatles music, and about to release a new song the public haven’t heard, I think it’s an exciting thing.”
