Nicholas Galitzine share steamy on-screen romance with Anne Hathaway in ‘The Idea of You’
Nicholas Galitzine’s onscreen chemistry with Anne Hathaway blew away the crowd at world premiere of The Idea of You on Saturday at SXSW in Austin, Texas.
The Purple Hearts actor, 29, revealed to the crowd that he knew that something was special about working with Hathaway, 41, when he first screen-tested with her.
“The chemistry read was kind of transformative. As an actor you oftentimes go into those rooms with so much trepidation, and it was so open,” Galitzine recalled meeting the Oscar winner. “And I kind of remember leaving the room going, ‘You know, if this doesn’t work out, I am really proud of the work that I did, even in this space.’”
The actor shared that he was asked to bring a song and convince Hathaway to dance with him during the chemistry read.
“That was very anxiety-producing because I am not a dancer, and it’s also hard,” he continued. “You know, you’re meeting someone for the first time and you don’t want it to be weird, but with those things you kind of have to go all in.”
He added that it was “so open” and felt in that moment that there was a “connection” with Hathaway. “There was a chemistry there and it was so much fun in that audition, which is rare to say,” he explained.
The following day, he remembered being “overjoyed” when he got a call and the team “said they wanted me to be their Hayes.”
An adaptation of Robinne Lee’s 2017 novel of the same name, the movie stars Galitzine playing 20-year-old boy band member Hayes who falls in love with Hathaway’s divorcée Soléne after a chance encounter at Coachella.
