Prince Harry recently renounced his UK residency in official records
Prince Harry’s decision to update his place of residence to the USA in official records comes with a great deal of implications.
In document recently revealed for eco-tourism firm Travalyst, the Duke of Sussex stated American as his new country of residence after amending it in June 2023.
As per the filing, Harry changed the section on Companies House on June 29, the day King Charles asked him and Meghan Markle to vacate Frogmore Cottage, their property on Windsor estate, after they quit their royal duties in 2020.
Writing for the Daily Mail, royal author Richard Eden pointed out his latest move could deprive him of his status as Counsellor of State to the King.
According to him, “Counsellors of State are required to have a UK domicile, but Harry has no home here after King Charles asked the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to vacate Frogmore Cottage, a gift from the late Queen Elizabeth.”
There are currently seven Counsellor of State, who can take over in Charles’ stead in case of his absence or illness – these include, Prince William, Harry, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward, Princess Anne and Queen Camilla.
Royal commentator Angela Levin also took to X, formerly Twitter, to reflect on Harry’s decision, noting: “A document released yesterday on Harry states his home is now America. Surely he can’t demand full time top brass protection.
“Nor interfere with our media. Nor be a Counsellor of State to stand in for the Monarch should it be needed. Well found @richardaeden”.
