Meghan Markle celebrates her 43rd birthday today
In the latest interview with Jane Pauley for CBS Sunday Morning, Meghan Markle stated that she “hasn’t scraped the surface” of her experiences within the Royal Family.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Meghan, 43, and Harry, 39, discussed their work supporting parents who have lost children to online bullying and abuse.
During the interview, Pauley referenced the couple’s 2021 conversation with Oprah Winfrey, where Meghan revealed she had contemplated suicide while serving as a working royal.
The interview also highlighted Meghan and Harry’s reflections on their time as working royals and the rifts with other family members.
Pauley said to Meghan: “You had an experience that connects you to these families and I see you touch your husband’s hand in just the way I knew that you would be looking after each other.
“The connection that you have with people is they know you had suffered too, personally, contemplating killing yourself, is what suicidal ideation was.”
The mother-of-two appeared deeply uncomfortable with Pauley referencing the Winfrey interview from three years ago and its contents.
Pauley referenced Meghan’s discomfort: “I’m dancing around this because I can see you’re uncomfortable with me even going there.”
The 43-year-old replied: “I understand why you are though. I wasn’t expecting it, but I understand why you are.
“When you’ve been through any level of pain or trauma, I believe part of our healing journey, certainly part of mine, is being able to be really open about it.
“I haven’t really scraped the surface on my experience, but I do think that I would never want someone else to feel that way and I would never want someone to be making those sort of plans and I would never want someone else to not be believed.”
Although Meghan Markle claims she has “not really scraped the surface” of her experiences, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have already given numerous interviews, both together and individually, about their time as working royals.
They also featured in a Netflix docuseries titled after themselves, where they provided in-depth accounts of their interactions with the King and Queen, as well as the Prince and Princess of Wales.
In January 2023, Prince Harry published a memoir called Spare, detailing his life before meeting Meghan, their marriage, and their decision to step back from royal duties.
Additionally, the couple is working on two separate series for Netflix as part of their high-profile deal with the streaming service, with both series set to be released later this year.
