Meghan Markle and Husband ‘still hope’ they’ll be asked to return as working royals

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly want to be helpful as the Royal Family suffers a crisis, but insiders believe this is unlikely to be allowed.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may still be holding out hope for a return to the royal fold “on their own terms” but an author believes this is not going to happen.

The Royal Family has been under pressure ever since King Charles was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, with Princess Kate also now revealing her own battle with cancer.

Now Harry is said to be keen to take up some royal duties, but sources from Buckingham Palace have shut down any possibility of this as they say he will not be asked back.

Royal author Tom Quinn previously told The Mirror: “Harry knows he will never be allowed to be a permanent part-time working royal staying six months in the States and then six months in the UK.

“The family no longer trust him and, besides, Meghan is absolutely against it. There is far too much bad blood now for it to be even a remote possibility.”

Now after learning about Kate’s diagnosis Mr Quinn added: “Both Meghan and Harry still hope that at some point they might be asked back to become working royals on their own terms.

“It’s a rapidly shrinking possibility, but the couple have talked about this at length and the fact that senior royal numbers are seriously down at the moment has rekindled their hopes.

“As I understand it from Palace contacts, they are kidding themselves if they think they will be invited back in any way.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were allegedly not informed about Kate’s illness before the Princess released a video on social media on Friday evening explaining her condition.

Harry and Meghan also sent a message of good wishes to the Princess of Wales, which read: “We wish health and healing for Kate and the family and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace.”

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams believes that while this is an especially difficult time for William and the family, it could provide the chance to mend Harry’s relationship with the Firm.

He told The Sun: “This is a dreadful situation, a major operation followed by cancer. There is always in the most awful and serious thing, sometimes opportunities come as well… one must hope there is as much positivity as possible, that’s what she is spreading with the message like that.

“This is also an opportunity for the trolls and the evil people spreading malicious rumours to be silenced.”

Former royal butler Grant Harrold explained how Harry and William’s cousin Princess Eugenie could be a go-between to help the brothers work things out.

Speaking on behalf of Fruity Slots, Mr Harrold said: “Eugenie is very close to William and Harry, she always has been, always will be.

“I’m sure that if she could, she would probably try to play peacekeeper with William and Harry, but it’s hard to say as we don’t know exactly what is going on behind closed doors.

I’m sure if she can help, she probably would try and intervene between the two of them, if she can help bring the brothers back together, of course she would.

“She’s their cousin and she cares about them both deeply.”
