‘Live’ Fans Can’t Believe Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos Made This Viral Social Media Trend “Look So Easy”

Who ever said doing a three-person plank challenge on TV was difficult?

If you ever wondered exactly how much athletic ability Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa have, well they just proved they know what they’re doing.

Fans know that the longtime couple love to talk about social media trends on Live With Kelly and Mark. Well, during the show’s “Viral Challenges Week,” they decided to put a few internet challenges to the test by trying out the trends for themselves. For their first attempt, the pair recruited executive producer Michael Gelman to see if the trio could properly execute a three-person plank challenge. But when fitness expert Marc Santa Maria showed them a video of three women demoing what they were supposed to do, Kelly seemed a bit apprehensive about what was about to happen.

“It seems like it’s three women of equal size,” she stated in the clip posted on Instagram. “It doesn’t matter?”

Shortly after the snippet ended, it was time for Kelly, Mark and Michael to try out the trick themselves. In a surprise turn of events, the three seemingly managed to execute the move surprisingly quickly … much to the shock of all the fans watching in-person and at home.

“You guys made it look so easy. I’m sure it wasn’t!” one person wrote in the comments. “What in the Bruce Lee is this invention??!?!” another exclaimed. “That was cool guys 👏👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️❤️,” a different follower added.

Needless to say, we certainly didn’t expect to see that on our TV screens so early in the morning! And while there is no exact explanation of what the three-person plank challenge is, it appears from several videos on TikTok that it’s a move meant to engage your core while trying to see how long you can keep your balance.

It’s important to note that the network told audiences, “please don’t try these challenges at home.” And according to the Good Housekeeping Institute’s Nutrition Lab Director Stefani Sassos, there are a few key things to keep in mind about this specific move and fitness challenges in general.

“Planks are an excellent exercise for improving core stability and strength, and they truly are a full body workout in that they engage multiple muscle groups,” she says. “This is an advanced modification and also brings into play balance and coordination. I think these fitness challenges can be a fun way to stay active with friends, but you do want to be careful since you could easily injure your back or something in this type of challenge. I also think it’s important to do it on a soft or cushioned surface like a carpet or gym mat.”

Now, should you want to see other cool challenges attempted by Kelly and Mark, they also did a partner handstand challenge — which they were surprisingly good at too! Now, can they teach us how to do it, please?
