Leonardo DiCaprio has been appreciated by Zack Snyder
Leonardo DiCaprio is the one who encouraged Zack Snyder to work on the idea about Superman fighting the Justice League.
Zack, who is known for his work with the DC Extended Universe and the Justice League movies, made this interesting confession while speaking on the latest episode of Happy Sad Confused podcast.
When podcast host Josh Horowitz questioned about casting choices for supervillain Lex Luthor in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
To which, Zack replied he talked to both Adam Driver and Leonardo about playing Lex Luthor in the movie.
“I think I did talk to Adam on the phone. Leonardo DiCaprio, I talked to him about it,” said the movie-maker.
Zack, who eventually selected Jesse Eisenberg in the movie, shared Leonardo “had a lot of great ideas, actually, just in the meeting”.
“I think, in the end, he was like, ‘Eh, I don’t know.’ But he was really smart about the material and really smart about the character,” disclosed the movie-maker.
Zack mentioned, “In a lot of ways, I think he was the one that mentioned to me this idea about Superman fighting the Justice League at some point.”
Moreover, the sequel in the Dawn of Justice that featured Luthor opposing Batman and Superman against each other, ultimately leading to Superman’s death and the formation of the Justice League, which set up the 2017 movie of the same name.
The idea Zack attributed to Leonardo in both Justice League and 2021’s recut Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
Meanwhile, Zack isn’t the only one who approached to Leonardo for superhero movies, another well-known person, David S. Goyer, the writer who worked with Christopher Nolan on Batman trilogy, told Happy Sad Confused in September 2023 that Warner Bros. executives wanted Leonardo to play Batman’s enemy after the success of 2008’s The Dark Knight.
