In Addition To The First-Look Teaser, Netflix Shares Some Pictures From The Upcoming Sophomore Season, Featuring A New Character Played By Park Gyuyoung.
Netflix has treated fans to the first-look teaser of “Squid Game” season 2. Unveiled on Thursday, February 1 on its social media accounts, the short footage sees Lee Jungjae returning as Seong Gihun.
The teaser kicks off with red-headed Gihun walking through a busy airport before a voice on the phone stops him. “You’ll regret your decision,” the person warns. That easily angers Gihun who later replies, “I will find you.” Looking determined as ever, he adds, “No matter what it takes.”
In addition to the teaser, Netflix shared some pictures from the upcoming season. One of the pictures sees Gihun looking tense. In addition to featuring Gong Yoo as the Recruiter and Lee Byunghyun as the Front Man, the new photos include the first look at a new character played by Park Gyuyoung.
According to Netflix, the sophomore season of “Squid Game” will see Gihun abandoning his plans to travel to the United States “after a mysterious call and [embarking] on a chase with a motive.” Creator Hwang Donghyuck also previously revealed that when writing the new season, he “just thought about the last moment when Gihun turned away from boarding the plane, and I thought about what he will do next.”
“Seong Gihun has become a totally new person by the end,” he claimed. He added that the upcoming season will be “about what that new Gi-hun is going to do and how things will unfold with this new kind of character.”
Wi Hajoon joins Yoo, Jungjae and Byunghyun as returning characters, reprising his role as Hwang Junho. New cast members, meanwhile, include Yim Si-wan, Kang Haneul, Park Sunghoon and Jo Yuri.
Season 2 of “Squid Game” has yet to have an official release date, but Netflix has confirmed the new episodes will debut before the end of the year.
