Kendrick Lamar‘s latest album, “GNX”, has become an instant success, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and Canadian Albums charts. Despite minimal promotion, the project has sold over 319K album-equivalent units in the U.S. and topped the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 with songs “Luther” and “Squabble Up” reaching second and third place, respectively.

Kendrick Lamar surprised fans and critics alike late last month with the unexpected release of his new album, “GNX”. Rumors had been circulating for months about new music from the Compton rapper, but nonetheless, his supporters were taken off guard.

Despite a lack of promotion, the project has been a huge success. It debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and sold 319K album-equivalent units in the U.S. Now, it’s reportedly topped the Billboard Canadian Albums chart as well.

While Lamar didn’t manage a No. 1 on the Canadian Hot 100, his songs “Luther” and “Squabble Up” are sitting at second and third, respectively.

Earlier this week, Lamar also announced his upcoming “Grand National” tour with SZA. The tour is scheduled to begin in April of next year and will see the duo perform at 19 stadiums across North America. This includes a stop at Toronto’s Rogers Centre, which the Blue Jays’ official X account promoted shortly after the announcement.

The announcement sparked jokes on social media, with fans teasing that Drake’s hometown seemed more excited about Kendrick and SZA than their local star.
