Kelly Ripa Called Out Mark Consuelos for His Totally Unexpected Hobby

The Live With Kelly and Mark star called out her husband for the surprising way he likes to spend his free time.

Mark Consuelos has some interesting hobbies when not on TV … and his wife Kelly Ripa is letting the world know about one of them.

Mark was absent for the January 23 episode of Live With Kelly and Mark, so TV personality Carson Kressley took his place as Kelly’s co-host for the day. Kelly and Carson discussed the “grandma core” social media trend during the taping, which started out as an aesthetic inspired by the lifestyle of a traditional American grandmother. While it originally was more focused on clothing and home decor, teens have taken the trend to the next level by trying hobbies usually favored by older generations — like embroidery, book clubs, canning food and more.

As Kelly shared she enjoys a bit of knitting in her spare time, Carson wasn’t into the idea of birding (a.k.a “birdwatching,” the hobby of observing birds and identifying them while in their natural environments). But as it turns out, Mark is a huge fan of bird watching — and it’s something he’s been embracing longer than folks may know.

“I know it would surprise people, but Mark is a birder,” Kelly revealed, per Decider.

“Is he?” Carson asked in response. “Does he have binoculars and a little pith helmet?”

“He doesn’t have a pith helmet, no. He does have binoculars,” Kelly replied.

Well, this is certainly a surprise! And as Kelly added, birding is not just something Mark does when she’s not around. Turns out he gets into it wherever they go — especially when there are species of birds he doesn’t often get to see in New York City.

“When we’re out on the West Coast, he’ll see road runners and birds that he’s not typically used to seeing,” she noted. “And he will literally, like, grab me out of bed and he’s like, ‘Come here! You’ve got to see this!'”

When Decider shared a clip of Kelly’s reveal about Mark on social media, plenty of folks understood his passion for birding.

“Bird watching is so much fun!” one person wrote on TikTok. “So many birders. 🦅🦆🦜🐥,” another noted on Instagram.

Now, we have to ask: Would you take up a hobby such as bird watching?
