Kelly Ripa reacted to her daughter Lola Consuelos’ topless bikini photo on Thursday.
The talk show host, 53, expressed her thoughts with a comment underneath her and Mark Consuelos’ 23-year-old daughter’s Instagram post from a sunny poolside day.
In the cover photo of her carousel, Lola stripped down and could be seen lying down on a beach towel without her bikini top while sunbathing.
‘Is this demure?’ the singer — who shared rare photos with her British boyfriend Cassius Kidston on his birthday last month — captioned her post as she referenced the recent viral social media trend.
Playing off the same trend, Ripa commented: ‘It’s very mindful.’
The ‘very demure, very mindful’ trend is a viral catchphrase, coined by content creator Jools Lebron, now widely used to satirize stereotypical ideas of feminity and subtly joke about being ‘demure, mindful and cutesy’ while boldly doing the opposite.
Social media users are now using the phrase to poke fun at their ironically not-so-demure, not-so-mindful posts or to throw shade at other people for their perhaps questionable actions.
The musician had her dark tresses pulled back and tied underneath a colorful headscarf.
Lola’s bold post follows the trend as she shared bikini photos of herself sporting a pair of dark sunglasses and statement earrings for her day of lounging outside on a lush daybed.
In the second photo of her series, Lola was seen lying down in the same position but this time, showing off her olive green bikini.
In addition to Lola, Ripa and Consuelos are also parents to sons Michael, 27, and Joaquin, 21.
The longtime couple — who have been married for nearly three decades since they tied the knot in 1996 — recently opened up about their parenting style in regards to their kids dating.
On the June 6 episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, the couple revealed that they try to stay out of their kids’ love lives.
‘Well, listen to this,’ Ripa said to her husband and co-host. ‘The Indian Matchmaking show sort of brought it to the forefront in showing people what the arranged marriages thing is sort of all about. So, the national divorce average is around 50 percent. Arranged marriage divorce rate is four percent. So parents know what they’re talking about.’
Consuelos then asked her: ‘Would we do that for our kids?’
In response, Ripa said: ‘I think we would select the kids that our kids are with, we would select those kids. If I could have hand-selected them… but I don’t want to say that.’
She added that whether they like or dislike who their kid is dating, it’s difficult to tell them what is best for them.
‘You don’t want to say too much, ’cause you know how that goes. So you have to act different.’
Consuelos agreed and added: ‘If you have comments, you’ll push them towards that person.’
The pair then shared their consensus that the best thing they can do is ‘say nothing’ in regards to their kids’ dating lives.
‘Yeah, if you don’t like somebody your child is with and you express that, they dig in,’ Ripa said.
