Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos revealed that their daughter, Lola Consuelos, is always thinking ahead. During an episode of Live With Kelly and Mark on Thursday, January 30, the couple shared that their middle child was already thinking about her parents’ retirement plans.
Kelly, 54, and Mark, 53, got to talking about how they have a “fantastic middle child” after reading a report that said “middle children grow up to be better people.”
In addition to Lola, 23, Kelly and Mark are also parents to their eldest child, Michael, and their youngest child, Joaquin.
“She will be taking care of us,” Mark said about Lola.
“She is going to definitely take care of us. She’s our hope for …” Kelly trailed off before Mark finished her sentence by saying, “Yeah, not putting us in a home.”
The All My Children actress said that Lola has mentioned that she “wants to put [them] in a home,” but clarified it would be a “really nice one.”
Mark chimed in to say, “The one in London next door to her.” Lola currently lives in London where she is focusing on her music career. She lives close to a “retirement home for the elderly” that’s “very swanky” and “very gorgeous,” according to her parents
“And every morning, she sends us a video of her walking by the home. She’s like, ‘Mom and Dad, look where I am, your future residence,’” Kelly revealed. “But it does look nice.”
Both Kelly and Mark agreed that the home looks pretty “fancy.”
As a New Yorker, I have no problem with that set-up,” Kelly said. “Whatsoever.”
Right now, Kelly and Mark’s Manhattan residence is already pretty fancy. When they’re not filming episodes of Live, the pair spend a lot of time entertaining their celebrity friends and family in their Big Apple home in the heart of the city.
The pair showed off the inside of their home in a video with Architectural Digest in December 2024. The apartment is fitted with a cigar lounge, stunning master bedroom, a perfectly decorated living room and a fabulous kitchen.
This became the hangout room in the entire house, and it was initially thought of as just Mark’s space where he would go to smoke cigars,” Mark said of the vintage-looking cigar lounge.
Retirement is a topic that Kelly has brought up publicly before.
“It’s so funny. Every time you get a new cohost, it’s like a little jolt of energy,” she told Entertainment Weekly in April 2023. “But to be clear, I am always thinking about retiring. It is my favorite topic of discussion.”
In September 2023, Mark addressed Kelly’s comments about retiring.
“I think it’s a real thing,” he said of his wife’s past remarks during an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “She’s been at that for 23 years.”
I don’t think it’s gonna be anytime soon,” the Riverdale alum said. “I know she’s having a good time, I’m having a really, really good time. But at some point, yeah.”
However, when the time comes for Kelly to retire, Mark intends to be nothing but supportive of his wife’s decision.
“When she does decide to walk away, no one’s earned it more than her,” the dad of three shared. “She’s been working her butt off since she was like 12 or 13 years old, and she got into the business at 18, and so it’s been a long ride. [But] she’s having a blast now.”
