Keith Urban Covers Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Espresso’ on The Tonight Show — Watch!

Keith Urban has great music “taste!”

The country singer, 56, surprised viewers when he gave an impromptu performance of Sabrina Carpenter’s summer hit “Espresso” while appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to promote his new album High on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

The special performance came about after host Jimmy Fallon praised Urban for his cover performances on the show. “One of the things I love about you is that you do cover songs,” he said, referring to Urban’s renditions of songs by Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande.

“How do you choose what cover songs you’re going to do?” he asked the singer.

“I don’t know, just a well-written song,” Urban said. “I mean, Taylor’s songs are all well-written, the bones are good … you can do any well-written song in almost any style.”

Fallon, 50, then asked, “Is there anything ticking in your head right now?”

Urban replied, “Uh … you could do Sabrina Carpenter ‘Espresso’ … you could do that, like, on a banjo or something,” as the audience cheered.

“I mean, that’s the song of the summer,” Fallon said. “I mean, you think you could do that on a banjo?”

Fallon then whipped out a banjo from behind his desk and handed it to him.

“Are you serious?” Urban asked. “You just happen to have one!?”

“I mean, try it!” Fallon urged.

After a few seconds of fine-tuning the instrument and trying out a few notes, Urban went into a country-tinged rendition of Carpenter’s viral pop hit, singing the lyrics while playing the banjo, as the audience clapped along.

The “Blue Ain’t Your Color” singer’s cover performance of “Espresso” comes after he praised another pop songstress recently — Swift.

Speaking to U.K. newspaper The Times, Urban shared his admiration for the singer in navigating the spotlight.

“It’s been remarkable watching Taylor grow in public because it’s pretty brutal,” he told the outlet. “It feels like now people have long forgotten all of the s— she had to go through,”

“Just trial by fire over and over — and always getting stronger for it,” he proudly added.
