Jeremy Allen White fondly recalled Ayo Edebirir’s first day as director
Jeremy Allen White had nothing but praise for his costar Ayo Edebiri’s directorial debut on The Bear.
At the show’s season 3 premiere on Tuesday, June 25, White recalled the excitement of witnessing Edebiri’s first day behind the camera.
“It was the best,” White told Variety. “I wasn’t acting in that first day of hers, I was on set just like hanging out.”
He fondly remembered watching Edebiri yell “action” for the first time, beaming with pride for his costar’s new endeavour.
Even though Edebiri, who portrays his sous chef Sydney Adamu, could not provide him with official guidance for the sequences in which he appeared, the 33-year-old Shameless star expressed nothing but gratitude for a job well done.
“I can say she did a beautiful job. She was very confident, I mean everybody knows how smart she is,” he continued.
“She’s a beautiful actress and a very intuitive actress. And I think she’s a very beautiful and intuitive director as well.”
Moreover, Edebiri revealed to Deadline that she experienced emotional reactions while directing her debut episode.
“I cried. It was written very beautifully,” she said of reading the script for the first time. “I was just so moved by it and really really touched that Chris [Storer] had me in mind to direct it.”
“I could see it as soon as I read it,” she added.
