The actress pulled back the curtain on that viral moment while filming the Apple TV+ series
No, Jennifer Aniston did not get oil thrown at her in real life. But viral photos of her filming such a moment for The Morning Show’s upcoming season did spark a wave of worrisome responses from those closest to her.
During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Oct. 2, Aniston set the record straight as she dispelled tabloid stories and rumors about herself online, including giving further context about the viral photos of herself covered in oil that made headlines.
“There was something that happened in the context of the show that was presented as if it happened in real life by the tabloids,” host Jimmy Kimmel began, holding up the picture of Aniston. “You got splashed by — well your character I should say — got splashed with oil … It seemed like somebody did this to you.”
The Friends alum, 55, explained that she was later overwhelmed with messages from concerned loved ones who tried checking in.
I was getting endless texts [asking], ‘Are you okay? What happened to you? This is awful,'” she recalled, before referring to tabloid reports, “But yeah, they just did not mention that it was in the [show].”
In July, Aniston shocked fans after photos surfaced from The Morning Show’s season 4 set that showed her character, Alex Levy, being doused in oil by an angry protester.
But behind the scenes, Aniston was all smiles after shooting the moment, according to a new picture the actress shared on Instagram on Sunday, Aug. 4.
In the snap, Aniston was covered in black liquid as she sat in a director’s chair. She lifted her leg to seemingly show off her large platform heels.
“I ❤️ NY,” Aniston the Friends alum wrote in the caption of her post, which also included a handful of other photos she snapped recently including a pic of her with Whoopi Goldberg and Cole Escola backstage at the Broadway hit, Oh, Mary!
This wasn’t the only headline she set the record straight on during her appearance on the late-night talk show.
Aniston was also presented with a magazine cover that had the headline “The Truth About Jen & Barack.” Another line on the cover claimed his wife Michelle Obama is “Betrayed as Aniston Steals Her Husband’s Attention,” and that Aniston and former President Barack Obama are “obsessed with each other.”
Laughing, she replied, “Of all the calls you get from your publicist, where you’re just like, ‘Oh, no, what’s it gonna be?’ or the email saying, you know, some cheesy tabloid is gonna make up a story, and then it’s that.”
“I was not mad at it,” the actress joked before clarifying that the romantic link between her and Barack, 63, is “absolutely untrue.”
“I have met him once. I know Michelle more than him,” she quipped. Kimmel then jokingly asked, “Is there a truth about you and Michelle that we should know?” Aniston then said with a smile, “That is not true.”
