Shannen Doherty, Richard Simmons, and more tragic losses were honoured at 76th Emmy Awards
The 2024 Emmy Awards took a heartfelt moment to honour the entertainment industry’s losses during the annual “In Memoriam” tribute, led by country star Jelly Roll.
This year, the ceremony paid tribute to beloved figures such as Shannen Doherty, Phil Donahue, and Richard Simmons, acknowledging their contributions to the world of television and beyond.
During the 76th Emmys, the tribute highlighted stars like Richard Lewis, Bob Newhart, and Louis Gossett Jr., alongside other industry icons including Piper Laurie, Carl Weathers, and James Earl Jones.
The segment honoured those who passed away over the last year, celebrating the indelible marks they left on their audiences and peers.
Before his emotional performance of I Am Not Okay, Jelly Roll shared a few words with the audience.
“I believe that music is therapeutic,” he began. “I hope this song can act as a healing moment for those mourning the storytellers we have lost this year.”
Shannen Doherty, who passed away in July after a nearly decade-long battle with cancer, was remembered for her strength and career legacy. Fitness icon Richard Simmons, who tragically died at 76 from accidental injuries, was also honoured for his groundbreaking fitness empire, including his famed Sweatin’ to the Oldies series.
