The ‘John Wick’ prequel series ‘The Continental’ will not receive a second season on Peacock, but a sequel series, ‘John Wick: Under the High Table’, is in the works.
The “John Wick” universe will continue to expand on television, but it will no longer include the prequel series “The Continental“. Producer Basil Iwanyk hinted that the three-episode limited series, which premiered on Peacock in September 2023, will not be renewed.
Instead, the franchise will focus on the sequel series “John Wick: Under the High Table“, which will pick up directly after the events of “John Wick: Chapter 4“. This series is executive produced by Keanu Reeves and Chad Stahelski and written by Robert Levine.
“We were happy with Season 1 [of ‘The Continental’],” Iwanyk explained. “But we believe the Robert Levine version of ‘John Wick’ content is the better option for the TV world.”
“The Continental”, which starred Colin Woodell as a young Winston Scott, took place before the events of the “John Wick” films. However, Iwanyk believes that “John Wick: Under the High Table” will better inform the future direction of the franchise.
“We want to put together something that is going to inform more of what the future of the franchise is going to be,” he said.
In addition to “John Wick: Under the High Table”, another “John Wick” film, “John Wick: The High Table”, is reportedly in development. The future of the feature film series remains unaffected by the upcoming television projects.
