The ‘Anti-Hero’ Singer, Whose Concert Film Was Also Nominated At The Ceremony, Enthusiastically Cheered For The ‘Easy A’ Star When The Actress Won Best Actress Award For Her Role In ‘Poor Things’.
Emma Stone‘s response to Taylor Swift‘s support for her at the 81st Golden Globe Awards has just proven how solid their friendship is. The Oscar-winning actress wasn’t hesitant to tease her friend over the Grammy winner’s enthusiastic reaction to the former’s win at the Sunday, January 7 ceremony.
At the show, Stone was named Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for her performance in “Poor Things”. Being one of Stone’s best supporters, Swift quickly stood up and cheered loudly as Stone’s name was called
In a post-win interview, Stone was asked by a reporter what she thought about Swift’s reaction to her win. “What an a**hole, am I right?” the “La La Land” star jokingly said, prompting laughter from everyone in the room.
She then quickly added, “No, I’ve known her for almost 20 years, so I was very happy she was there and she was also nominated tonight, which was wonderful.” The 35-year-old quipped once again, “Yes, what an a**hole.”
Swift wasn’t the only one happy for Stone’s win that night. Jennifer Lawrence, who was nominated in the same category with Stone, looked so thrilled though she initially threatened to leave if she didn’t win.
“If I don’t win, I’m leaving,” the Katnis Everdeen depicter in “The Hunger Games” film series mouthed to the camera as she was mentioned as one of the nominees. She later stood up and threw her hands in the air enthusiastically as Stone won the award.
Stone and Swift have been friends since they were teenagers. The former spoke on “The Graham Norton Show” that they met “at the Young Hollywood Awards when [Swift] was 18 in L.A. We just kept in touch ever since and became great friends.”
Lawrence, meanwhile, asked Stone about their friendship in an interview for ELLE in 2018. “I notice that you bring up friendship a lot. Is that important to you?” Lawrence asked her friend. Stone joked, “No.”
“Who’s your favorite friend?” Lawrence asked “The Amazing Spider-Man” actress, who jokingly replied, “I really like [Lawrence’s dog] Pippi.” When Lawrence noted, “She has a personality!” Stone admitted, “I love Pippi’s mom.”
“So are friends important to you? And why?” Lawrence asked Stone again. In a serious note, the latter explained, “I think friendship is pretty much everything. Here’s another turning-30 thing I’ve realized: You pick your family. You realize that your friendships, the people who go with you into these next phases of your life- you’re choosing your family.”
When asked which quality is most important in friendship, Stone said, “Loyalty is enormous.” She added to Lawrence, “You’ve been one of my most loyal friends for years. And I think knowing that you can laugh together and that not everything has to be such a big deal.”
