Pintauro’s castmates Alyssa Milano and Tony Danza also posted on their Instagram Stories on Sept. 20 to celebrate the anniversary
Danny Pintauro is honoring the 40th anniversary of Who’s the Boss? in a unique way!
On Friday, Sept. 20, Pintauro, 48, who played Jonathan Bower on the 1980s sitcom, revealed that although the cast wasn’t able to get together for the big day, it didn’t mean that the occasion wasn’t a special one.
“Hey friends, Danny Pintauro here,” he began in a video posted on Instagram. “I’ve decided that September 20th is, from this day forward, Who’s the Boss? Day.”
Noting that he was unsure of how to make the proposed date “official,” Pintauro explained that he had nonetheless “decided” to make it so.
“So, happy Who’s the Boss? Day,” he added, smiling. “And happy 40th anniversary to the premiere of the first episode of our wonderful television show.”
The sitcom, which first aired in 1984, lasted for 8 seasons, and centered around a single dad and former pro baseball player (Tony Danza as Tony Micelli) who took a job as a live-in housekeeper for a powerful ad executive (Judith Light as Angela Robinson Bower).
Alyssa Milano scored one of her first television roles in the series by starring as Tony’s daughter Samantha.
The show’s theme song played in the background of Pintauro’s video as he added he was “so happy to have been in your lives for eight years bringing you joy and happiness.”
He was also proud to have played a part in “showing you what a good, healthy family looks like.”
“I just wanted to get on here and send some love and light to Tony, Alyssa and Judith for being the most amazing cast to work with back in the day. And I also send them love and light for a terrific Who’s the Boss? Day,” he said.
“Unfortunately, we cannot be together today, or we haven’t been able to do a reunion because Tony’s at the Carlyle, Alyssa’s on Broadway in Chicago, Judith’s filming a series, I’m outside, as you can hear, and about to move,” he said while sitting in the back of a moving truck.
Still, Pintauro, who has signed on for “24-hour plays” was proud of everyone having “stuff going on.”
“I think that that’s a good thing. It means we’re all still working and living and loving life, so I’m happy with that,” he concluded.
On her Instagram Stories, Milano reposted Pinatauro’s video as well as sharing a fan post that celebrated the actor’s ‘Who’s the Boss Day’ announcement, tagging her costars.
Meanwhile, Danza shared his own message on social media in honor of the anniversary.
Over a video he had previously shared of the show’s opening titles, the actor wrote on his Instagram Stories: “Who’s The Boss premiered 40 years ago tonight!” tagging Milano, Light and Pintauro and adding a heart emoji.
PEOPLE spoke with Milano for the 40th anniversary. The actress, 51, was 11 years old when she was cast during her “formative years.”
“So, this is the first season where I had just come from theater. So, you can tell I’m not yet a sitcom kid,” she said, looking at photos of her younger self.
“A lot of Sam was based on who I was as a kid,” she explained, “which was someone who loved sports, a tomboy, someone who loved her family, tough, scrappy, and everything that kind of went on in my adolescence.”
Milano also revealed that the cast has managed to stay close to one another throughout the years.
“No one else understands that experience but us,” she told PEOPLE. “It was a really special cast.”
Who’s the Boss? is now streaming on Hulu.
