Aguilera is set to release new live versions of tracks from her 1999 debut album for its 25th anniversary with Carpenter and Machine Gun Kelly
Christina Aguilera and Sabrina Carpenter are a match made in heaven.
Ahead of the two artists’ upcoming collaboration, they came together for a fun social media video on Sept. 18, with the “Espresso” singer, 25, joking that the Grammy winner, 43, is her “mom.”
In the video, the pair sits on a couch with a full band behind them as Carpenter lip-syncs to a sound of Kylie Jenner — who’s dressed as Aguilera for Halloween in the past — speaking about her mother, Kris. “I’m obsessed with my mom,” says the makeup mogul.
So you’re saying you’re her favorite?” someone else asks in the audio, while Carpenter pans the camera to show Aguilera.
“That’s exactly what I’m saying,” continues the clip of Jenner, while both singers smile and laugh. “I’m her favorite. We actually have a relationship like she has no other kids. Yeah.”
Aguilera shared the video alongside the caption, “Obsessed.”
The moment comes shortly after Aguilera announced she’ll be celebrating 25 years of her 1999 self-titled debut album with newly recorded live performances of select tracks as part of the Spotify Anniversaries series, set to drop Sept. 23.
Carpenter and Machine Gun Kelly will each duet with the Burlesque star on a track, according to Rolling Stone, and stories behind the making of the album will also be shared.
“I wanted to celebrate the 25th anniversary of my debut album in a way that brings together the past and present,” Aguilera told RS on Sept. 18.
The “Ain’t No Other Man” vocalist added, “I’ve always enjoyed reimagining my songs with different styles and audiences, as well as playing with sounds and arrangements that showcase how all music can be timeless.”
Christina Aguilera was released on Aug. 24, 1999. The album reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and spawned three chart-topping hits on the Billboard Hot 100: “Genie in a Bottle,” “What a Girl Wants” and “Come On Over Baby (All I Want Is You).”
