Chris Pine thinks ‘Wonder Woman is an incredible character’ after a threequel was cancelled
Chris Pine doesn’t seem to understand why Woman Woman 3 was cancelled by DC.
The star portrayed Steve Trevor opposite Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman and was the love interest of the female superhero.
“I’m stunned that they said no to a billion-dollar franchise and decided to pivot elsewhere,” the Poolman director told Business Insider in an interview.
“I don’t know what the reasoning was behind that; it’s above my pay grade, but Wonder Woman is an incredible character. Patty [Jenkins] is such a thoughtful director.”
Pine also made it clear that he wouldn’t have starred in a third movie, even it would have been made, adding, “Me. No. Homie is dead. Steve is gonzo. It would be ridiculous to try to bring me back.”
The actor also opened up on getting cast in the role, revealing that he had turned down playing the former “Air Force officer” at first.
“I had no interest in playing the boyfriend, and it sounded like second fiddle,” Pine said.
“Then, in talking to Patty, the way she described it was, ‘Forget the superhero of it all, this is a romance, this is Casablanca, that’s the movie I want to make.’ I was like, oh, now that is very cool because when have you seen a superhero film that was a love story, ultimately? That had nothing to do with blowing shit up.”
Wonder Woman 3 was axed as James Gunn and Peter Safran acquired DC Studios at head positions and planned a rebuild of the DCEU.
