Chappell Roan slams ‘exploitative’ music industry, hints at possible exit

The Hot to Go hitmaker confessed that she wants to ‘quit’ music due to ‘burnout’ and exhaustion

Chappell Roan isn’t exactly chasing Grammy gold — if anything, she’s hoping for the opposite.

Though she won her first ever Grammy for Best New Artist earlier this year, the 26-year-old pop star admitted during a candid interview with The Face that she isn’t looking forward to going through the experience again next year.

“I’m kind of hoping I don’t win, because then everyone will get off my a**. Like, ‘See guys, we did it and we didn’t win, bye!’ I won’t have to do this again!” Roan told the outlet on Monday, September 16.

The Hot To Go hitmaker admitted that she feels overwhelmed by the pressure and stress that comes with her sudden rise to fame, particularly in terms of the industry’s demands and fans’ invasion of her privacy.

Emphasising that she wants to make her career “sustainable” Roan noted how “This industry and artistry f***ing thrive on mental illness, burnout, overworking yourself, not sleeping.”

She added, “The ambition is: how do I not hate myself, my job, my life, and do this? Because right now, it’s not working. I’m just scrambling to try to feel healthy.”

The Good Luck, Babe singer further confessed that she is grappling with the thought of quitting and taking the next year off.

“My brain is like: quit right now, take next year off,” she expressed.
