Brooke Shields approves of John Mulaney’s ‘SNL’ parody of 1980 Calvin Klein ad

John Mulaney imitated Brooke Shields’ controversial 1980 ad for ‘Saturday Night Live’

Brooke Shields didn’t seem to mind when John Mulaney tried to channel the actress’ Calvin Klein energy on Saturday Night Live.

The 42-year-old comedian hosted Saturday Night Live on Nov. 2, playfully re-creating Shields’ iconic Calvin Klein ad from 1980 in one of his promotional images for the show.

In the shot, Mulaney dressed up in dark-washed jeans and a red button-up shirt, kicking his heeled boot up in a nod to Shields’ memorable pose.

Shields, now 59, responded to the homage by showing her approval on social media.

“I see no difference… I guess they can be your Calvins too, @johnmulaney @nbcsnl @calvinklein,” The Blue Lagoon alum wrote in the caption of an Instagram post, sharing the two pics side by side.

In the original 1980 ad, 15-year-old Shields made waves by pairing a maroon blouse, buttoned only at the top, with form-fitting Calvin Klein jeans, a look that revealed her midriff.

Her famous line, “What comes between me and my Calvins? Nothing,” caused a stir, sparking major controversy over its provocative tone.

The ad’s impact led some networks, like CBS and ABC, to even ban the campaign, feeling it was too bold for audiences at the time.
