Bob Dylan has publicly acknowledged the upcoming biopic about his early years, praising Timothee Chalamet’s portrayal and offering his thoughts on the film’s depiction of key events in his life.
Bob Dylan has given his official support to “A Complete Unknown“, the upcoming biopic about his early life starring Timothee Chalamet. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Dylan wrote, “There’s a movie about me opening soon called A Complete Unknown (what a title!). Timothee Chalamet is starring in the lead role. Timmy’s a brilliant actor so I’m sure he’s going to be completely believable as me. Or a younger me. Or some other me.”
Dylan also commented on the film’s source material, Elijah Wald’s 2015 book “Dylan Goes Electric”, describing it as “a fantastic retelling of events from the early ’60s that led up to the fiasco at Newport.”
Directed by James Mangold, “A Complete Unknown” tracks Dylan’s rise to fame in the Greenwich Village folk scene, leading up to his controversial performance with an electric guitar at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival. Chalamet’s performance has already garnered praise, with journalist Scott Menzel calling it “the performance of the year.”
Other cast members include Elle Fanning, Monica Barbaro, Edward Norton, Boyd Holbrook, Dan Fogler and Scoot McNairy. The film is written by Mangold and Jay Cocks, and is scheduled for release on December 25.
Dylan’s public endorsement of “A Complete Unknown” suggests that he is pleased with the film’s representation of his life and career. He has been involved in the production process, meeting with Mangold multiple times and reviewing the script.
Despite his involvement, it is unclear whether Dylan will attend the official premiere or promote the movie in any other way. His public schedule for the foreseeable future is blank after wrapping up the 2024 leg of his “Never Ending Tour” in November 2024.
