Beyoncé’s DNC Performance Was ‘Never Scheduled,’ Despite Rumors

Rumors of her appearance were “untrue,” said one of the singer’s reps.

During the final night of the 2024 Democratic National Convention, rumors swirled about a musical performance from a special guest: Beyoncé. After Wednesday night performances at the convention from John Legend and Stevie Wonder, expectations were high—so much so that social media users speculated either Taylor Swift or Beyoncé would indeed appear next on the stage.

Considering Bey’s “Freedom” has soundtracked the Harris-Walz campaign, a performance from the star didn’t seem far off. TMZ kicked the Beyoncé rumor into overdrive after reporting she was in Chicago and would perform, but shortly after, The Hollywood Reporter spoke to one of the musician’s representatives, who said the report was false—thesinger would not attend the DNC. “Beyoncé was never scheduled to be there,” Beyoncé’s rep told the publication. “The report of a performance is untrue.”

To further shut down the rumors, the singer’s publicist Yvette Noel-Schure posted a photo on Instagram of herself watching the DNC at home. “At home watching and anticipating the VP’s historic speech. Focus on the win and register to vote. Do not report rumors. FOCUS 🇺🇸,” she captioned the snap.

So, who turned out to be the mystery special guest? Well, the Chicks kicked off the musical performances with an a-cappella rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner,” before Pink and her 13-year-old daughter, Willow, took the stage. The mother-daughter duo performed a version of Pink’s “What About Us,” closing out the musical segment of the evening.

Kamala Harris then took the stage as headliner. No one else joined her in the spotlight, which might have been the point all along.
