Taylor Swift Gets Emotional As She Returns To Brazil Stage

After Being Forced To Postpone Her Saturday Show Due To ‘Extreme Temperatures,’ The ‘Anti-Hero’ Singer Is Back For Her Second Concert In Rio De Janeiro Where She Appears To Get Teared Up Onstage.

Taylor Swift was reportedly moved to tears as she returned to the Brazil stage on Sunday, November 19 after a fan died at her concert on Friday. The country-turned-pop star looked emotional while thanking the crowd on the second night of her Rio de Janeiro stop.

Thanking Swifties who were braving the rain to attend the concert, the Grammy winner said, “How lucky do you have to be to have 65,000 people dance in the pouring rain with you? I’ve never gotten to bring a tour to Brazil before and you’ve been so supportive to me ever since the beginning of my career.”

“I love you so much and I’m so happy to see your face tonight you have no idea,” she continued. Later on following her performance of “Champagne Problems”, the crowd erupted into cheer as Taylor mouthed, “I love you.”

In a video capturing the moment, the 33-year-old appeared to soak up the energy from her fans who were clapping and cheering on her. She looked teary-eyed as she briefly wiped her eyes with her two hands before fixing her hair.

“She cried, I cried. Seems emotionally heartbroken, but determined to give the crowd her best,” one fan commented on the video, which has gone viral. Another similarly pointed out, “She’s cryinggg I can’t.”

Later that night, Taylor sang “Bigger Than the Whole Sky” which is believed to be for her late fan. “Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye/ You were bigger than the whole sky/ You were more than just a short time,” the pop superstar sang while visibly getting choked up. “I’m never gonna meet/ What could’ve been, would’ve been/ What should’ve been you/ What could’ve been, would’ve been you.”

Other emotional lyrics included, “No words appear before me in the aftermath/ Salt streams out my eyes and into my ears/ Every single thing I touch becomes sick with sadness

Many have since praised the “Lover” songstress for paying tribute to her late fan. “She played it for the girl who died, I’m gonna cry,” one person wrote. Another speculated, “She played her heart out on that piano, you can tell she was doing it all for Ana.”

Others claimed that Taylor “was crying” as she sang and you could “hear” her raw emotion as she grieved for her fan. On X, previously known as Twitter, one fan commented, “I can feel her hurt, the impact of what happened. Her voice… her emotion.”

“I already have immense respect for @taylorswift13 but after tonight’s surprise song, it has tripled. That must have been so hard for her to perform, for the original meaning and why she chose to play it tonight,” another fan raved.

Ana Clara Benevides died on Friday ahead of Taylor’s concert. She fainted while she was in the front row of the Estadio Nilton Santos. In videos she posted before her death, Ana showed how she waited hours to get into the stadium. She was transferred to the local Salgado Filho Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

In a statement addressing her fan’s passing, Taylor said in a hand-written letter, “I can’t believe I’m writing these words but it is with a shattered heart that I say we lost a fan earlier tonight before my show. I can’t even tell you how devastated I am by this.”

“I’m not going to be able to speak about this from stage because I feel overwhelmed by grief when I even try to talk about it,” she added. “I want to say now I feel this loss deeply and my broken heart goes out to her family and friends. This is the last thing I ever thought would happen when we decided to bring this tour to Brazil.”

Following Ana’s death, Taylor canceled her Saturday show due to “extreme temperatures.” She said in a statement, “I’m writing this from my dressing room in the stadium. The decision has been made to postpone tonight’s show due to the extreme temperatures in Rio. The safety and well-being of my fans, fellow performers and crew always has to come first.”

The Saturday show has been pushed back to Monday, which means Taylor won’t be able to attend the Chiefs game against the Eagles on Monday. It was previously reported that she was expected to bring her parents and introduce them to Travis Kelce’s mom and dad when her boyfriend faces off his brother Jason Kelce at Arrowhead Stadium
