Blake Lively, Justin Baldoni ‘caught in the moment’ after filming steamy scenes

Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively appeared to have a cordial working relationship based on their early interactions before things went south during the filming of It Ends With Us.

In recent weeks, Baldoni and Lively filed lawsuits against each other. The Gossip Girl actress claimed the director sexually harassed her on set, a claim he has refuted.

They developed a rapport at the start of filming in May 2023, as evidenced by the thousands of messages and emails that have now been made public from Lively’s initial complaint and Baldoni’s following $400 million defamation lawsuit.

His defence team claims that during that period, Baldoni and Lively kept in close contact, “share[ing] pictures and stories from their lives, commiserat[ing] over family illnesses and exchange[ing] jokes and memes.”

“It’s such a good feeling to get work done that we’re proud of. And to do it together,” Lively, 37, wrote in one text exchange included in the lawsuit filed by Baldoni’s team.

“It just clicks when we find it. And that’s just as rewarding as filming it. Or editing it. Or marketing it. Or releasing it. This is all story telling. This is why we do it.”

In a follow-up text, she thanked Baldoni, 41, for his “collaboration,” noting that she was “really proud of what [they’re] doing.”

Baldoni “loved” the remark and responded, “I like sentimental Blake,” to which she retorted, “Never met her,” according to screenshots from the court documents.

Baldoni added to the bit, writing, “I also like a**hole Blake… don’t worry.”

The Age of Adaline actress ended the exchange with the same self-deprecating humor, joking, “I’ve met her. So have my suppositories.”

Ahead of their first day of filming, Lively messaged Baldoni to say she was “grateful for all [they had] built so far.”

“I’m excited to start tomorrow. But it’s only one piece of the journey. We started months ago,” she wrote via an email included in the filings.

“Thank you for caring so much and for putting every bit of you into showing it,” she added.

Following their productive first few days on set, Baldoni gave the actress similar accolades for her work.

“I’m not going to tell you that you were amazing because you tease me for being so sentimental – but you were amazing today,” he texted on May 23, 2023, filings show.

“Thank you I do appreciate it. I’m just a ball buster but it means a lot to me. I care a great deal. And always want to deliver,” Lively wrote back.

“You were terrific. I’m proud of everything we did today, but really every day,” she added.

The conversations have emerged as a key issue in each of their lawsuits; in her initial complaint, Baldoni claimed Lively “cherry-picked” remarks out of context.

Last month, Lively accused Baldoni of sexually harassing her on set and filed a civil rights complaint and lawsuit in California.

She said he showed her explicit films, weight-shamed her, added more intimate moments than were initially agreed upon, and made her feel uncomfortable on multiple occasions with sexually suggestive comments.

Days after the actress’ complaint was originally reported by the New York Times, Baldoni filed his own lawsuit against Lively, her husband, Ryan Reynolds, and their public relations staff, alleging that they had planned a smear campaign.

In addition, he filed a $250 million libel complaint against the journal.
