The award nominations acknowledged Jacques Audiard’s Spanish-language film with 10 nominations, including best supporting actress in a musical or comedy for Saldaña. The movie also received nods for best motion picture, director, screenplay, original score, and original song.
The 46-year-old actress also reached out to her nominated costars, Karla Sofia Gascon and Selena Gomez. “I left a message for Selena, I left a message for Karla immediately,” she said. “I’m just so proud of us. I’m so proud of them.”
Saldana emphasized the significance of her nomination as a symbol of representation. “I know this is something really special,” she explained. “That a girl who looks like me from Queens, New York can also win and is meant to reach just higher peaks of mountains. Anybody can do it.”
