Pop icon Britney Spears is not actually relocating to Mexico despite recently announcing her plan on social media to leave the states because of the paparazzi harassment.
Despite her initial declaration on Instagram that she was moving to Mexico to escape the “cruel” treatment she received from paparazzi, sources close to Britney Spears have confirmed that the pop star is not actually taking the leap. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Spears stays put in the U.S.
In her Instagram video on Tuesday, December 3, Spears expressed her frustration with the paparazzi and their portrayal of her, “I’m not perfect at all, but some of it is extremely mean and cruel.” The video was posted a day after her 43rd birthday.
Two days later, Spears shared a video of herself house hunting in Mexico, expressing gratitude for a beautiful place far from America. However, it remains unclear whether Spears was simply teasing her audience.
Her posts come amidst her legal separation from ex-husband Sam Asghari, whom she split from in August 2023.
Spears’ life is currently being adapted into a biopic directed by Jon M. Chu, with Universal Pictures acquiring the rights to her bestselling memoir, “The Woman in Me.” In a recent interview, Chu said that the project would explore themes of societal treatment of young people, stars, and women.
Spears herself has hinted at a more fictionalized approach to her biopic, describing it as a “musical” where she plays an “extremely intelligent character.”
