‘Live’s Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos Filmed A Hallmark Christmas Movie Parody That Was So Accurate It Hurts

One of our favorite things in life is Halloween-themed episodes of TV shows, and Live with Kelly and Mark always delivers a solid version. On today’s episode, dubbed Only Halloween in the Building, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos didn’t just play dress-up, they put on a show that was an homage to the big pop culture moments of 2024 with sketches that spoofed Only Murders In The Building, the Inside Out movies, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ “Die With A Smile” music video, and, our personal fave, a hilarious spoof on Hallmark Christmas movies.

Someone at Live! clearly has their finger on the pulse and knows that this week is the beginning of Hallmark’s Countdown to Christmas, which must be where the idea for a Hallmark parody film called A Gold Medal Christmas came from.

The fake movie, about two Olympians who fall in love at the Paris Olympics, “stars” Australian breaking competitor Raygun (Ripa) and French pole vaulter Anthony Ammirati (Consuelos), the man who gained notoriety after knocking a pole vault crossbar off with his crotch. Not only did the sketch capture two of the most insane viral moments of the Olympics, but it was a spot-on take of Hallmark movies.

As the fake trailer begins, the narrator explains, “Her dancing captivated the world. All eyes were on his pole. They both came up short of their happy ending… or did they? Coming this fall to the Hallmark Channel, it’s A Gold Medal Christmas.”

The spoof goes on to show Ripa performing breaking moves as Raygun and flirting with Consuelos’s Ammirati in an Australian accent, while the narration takes a few loving shots at Hallmark.

“Starring the same actors from the last movie you watched, shot over the course of three days in August using the same set used for our Christmas movies, A Gold Medal Christmas has it all: Olympians! Dancing! And…Christmas? Sure, why not? Featuring Christmas songs that are… just a little off, baby, it’s gold outside!”

The faux trailer also features an appearance from actual Olympic gymnast Stephen Nedoroscik, who pops in to quip, “You two are a perfect ten!”

The sketch was one of several truly funny bits throughout today’s episode of Live! but to those of us who know the Hallmark movie canon, this one felt a little too real. Hallmark, are you paying attention? Because I would watch this.
