Kelly Ripa And Mark Consuelos Recall “Spontaneous” And “Extravagant” Moment From Their Early Dating Days

Live with Kelly and Mark took a sentimental turn this morning. Co-hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos shared a “fun story” with their viewers while discussing a proposed air taxi service that could take travelers to New York City’s JFK International Airport.

“Do you remember that one time? We were dating,” Consuelos began, noting that the two were working on their show All My Children at the time.

Consuelos said he and Ripa were planning a trip to celebrate his birthday when he asked her if she wanted to “do something crazy” that weekend.

“I said, ‘What if I get tickets and we can go to Puerto Rico for the weekend, would you like to go?’ And you said, ‘I would love to go!’” he recalled.

Consuelos booked a Friday evening flight out of JFK — when traffic was “crazy” — and unfortunately, they were working later than planned. Ripa insisted that she was done working but it was Consuelos who still had scenes to film, making her anxious about whether or not they would make their flight.

“There was no way we’re making this flight!” Ripa exclaimed. “If we leave right now, we might make the flight, and we can’t leave right now because he’s still working.”

While Ripa though they would inevitably miss their flight, her future husband had a different outlook: “That’s not how we do it in Consuelos World,” he said.

Ripa paused the story to say, “It was insane,” while Consuelos pointed out that the tale took place nearly 30 years ago when they were “just kids.” Still, that didn’t stop Consuelos from getting a helicopter to transport them to the airport.

“I landed this one!” he joked, referring to his wife, who told the audience, “I was like, ‘A helicopter?! What are you, a Rockefeller?’”

Thankfully, the couple “just made it” to Puerto Rico after the “spontaneous” and “extravagant” adventure. We love a happy ending!
