Britney Spears’ long-hidden audition tape for ‘The Notebook’ unearthed: Watch

The audition took place after Justin Timberlake ended three year old relationship with Britney Spears over a two word text message in early 2000s

Back in the early 2000s after breaking up with Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears was so close to starring as the leading role in The Notebook opposite Ryan Gosling but the creator’s ultimately settled for Rachel McAdams.

The Daily Mail exclusively revealed the singer’s two and a half minute emotional audition in which the Toxic vocalist slowly broke down in tears in front of Gosling while reading through a particularly raw, and iconic scene.

The clip features Spears, slipped in a white lace top and her tresses down, immersing herself in the character.

As she goes through the lines, she gradually becomes more emotional proving why she deserved to be in contention for the role.

According to the outlet, film producer Matthew Barry, 44, shared how the former actress outshined other potential candidates including Claire Danes, Scarlett Johansson, Amy Adams and Jessica Biel.

At the time of audition, Spears was only 21 years old and delivered an exceptionally emotional performance during her screen test with Gosling.

According to Barry, Spears’ remarkable portrayal of the character combined with raw emotion ‘blew away’ the movie producers.

She had nearly secured her role in the movie, before McAdams, 44, stepped in front of the camera and was chosen as the ideal leading lady.
