Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton’s love story, coupled with obstacles, is said to be no easy feat
Bridgerton season three script snapped Luke Newton out of his dreamy illusion of Penelope and Colin’s love story sailing smoothly into a happily ever after.
In an interview with Glamour on Wednesday, May 15, Newton, 31, reflected on his initial thoughts on the script.
“Penelope has been infatuated with Colin ever since the start of season one,” he explained, “So in my head, there was a clear path: All he needs to do is see what’s been right in front of him all this time, and they’ll live happily ever after.”
However, to his surprise, the English actor added, “Jess Brownell, our showrunner, has done such an incredible job of putting every obstacle you can think of in the way.”
Some of those obstacles include another potential suitor for Penelope, the instance when she overheard Colin Bridgerton say he’d “never court her, and the looming threat of her identity as Lady Whistledown being revealed.
“Even if there was no drama throughout the whole season, the Whistledown thing is enough to make or break anything,” Newton concluded.
Additionally, Bridgerton season three will feature the love story of Penelope Featherington played by Nicola Coughlan, and Colin Bridgerton, Newton’s character. Both characters have been transformed and the cast is excited for the viewers to see them.
Fans can look forward to diving into the upcoming season, with part one premiering on May 16 on Netflix and the second part available on June 13.
