Amy Schumer gives insight into ‘Life & Beth’ season 2

‘Life & Beth’ season 2 is available to watch on Hulu

Amy Schumer candidly spoke about the soft details and social stigmas involved while filming season 2 of Life & Beth.

The romantic connection between Beth (Schumer) and John (played by Michael Cera) is the focus of the follow-up season of her semi-autobiographical Hulu dramedy, which debuted all ten episodes on Thursday. As the teaser hinted at, Beth and John get married early in the new season.

With the release of season two, the couple—who are parents to a son named Gene—have another glimpse into their developing tale.

“As far as timelines go, this was around the birth of my child, and now he’s almost 5. So, it’s definitely not in real time,” she explains. “I feel like it takes that many years to process and reflect, and figure out what you want to say and communicate what you’ve learned.”

According to Schumer, the inspiration to begin writing the series in the beginning came from reading her teenage journals again. Reading back on her earlier writings enabled her to write a semi-autographical series while processing her former experiences as an adult.

“As someone whose expression is my way of reconciling my life and processing it, it’s just an incredible opportunity to get to continue to do that, as a way to process my life as it continues,” she says.

Her Jewish identity is also deeply engrained in the series, with flashbacks depicting her character encountering antisemitism.

“Even when it’s just a throwaway line or the kids just yelling something to her, I think it’s a really good way to show how these things stick with you and can eat at you,” she says.
