Emily Blunt glories Cillian Murphy for ‘Oppenheimer’ instead of Christopher Nolan

‘Oppenheimer’ leads Oscar nominations with 13 nods

Emily Blunt publicly discussed why Cillian Murphy’s “reserved” demeanour doesn’t take away from his appeal before the Oscars.

During a group interview with People magazine at the 96th Oscar Nominees Luncheon in Beverly Hills, California, the 40-year-old actress discussed her relationship with Oppenheimer. She told him that “there’s a reverence that he’s so deserving of.”

“And you are, like, the quietest conductor of this whole thing. You don’t mean to be — it’s not in your nature to want to lead — but I think that there’s something just captivating about you, whether you like it or not, that people are spellbound by,” she added.

Emily continued by saying that although it’s not how Christopher Nolan depicts his characters, people believe that to be the case.

“And it is. As much as you like to say, ‘This is all of [director] Chris Nolan,’ why people are so captivated by this film, but it’s you,” she explained.

Her warm remarks coincide with Cillian’s first Oscar nomination (for his portrayal of Robert Oppenheimer in the Best Actor category).

However, Robert Downey Jr. is nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Lewis Strauss, and Emily is also up for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of his wife, Kitty Oppenheimer.
