Meghan Markle and Prince Harry first began dating in 2016, with their engagement announced a year later, and they tied the knot in a star-studded ceremony in 2018
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex first began dating in 2016, when they were set up on a blind date by mutual friends. In their Netflix docu-series, Harry admitted he had seen Meghan first on Instagram, and the couple exchanged numbers after the Suits actress was impressed with his conservation efforts. They kept their relationship under wraps for six months, and in 2017, the couple announced to the world that they were getting married
They tied the knot in May 2018 in front of senior members of the Royal Family, including the late Queen and Prince Philip, as well as celebrities such as David Beckham and Oprah Winfrey. They later relocated to the US to raise their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, after quitting their roles of working royals, but one relationship expert believes Meghan is struggling with being overlooked, and wants to be in the spotlight again.
Adam Lyons told Express that Meghan is in need of constant “reassurance” from Harry when they’re at public events, and she appears insecure and needy. He said her subtle gestures, such as touching his chest or holding his hand, focuses the attention on her and away from Harry.
Discussing the Duke and Duchess’ recent trip to Jamaica, during which they attended a movie premiere, was another example of Meghan’s determination to have Harry focus his attention solely on her. “Even now you can see she tries to talk and have things to say, but the press cares more about what Prince Harry has to say,” Adam explained. “That has to be infuriating for her and so the hand-holding would serve as reassurance that he isn’t forgetting her.”
He said she wants Harry to “look after her” during public events, and while at the premiere in Jamaica, the prince, 39, constantly leaned into his wife to ask her if she was okay, but she focused her attention elsewhere. “She is looking out at everyone while he is constantly checking to see she’s okay,” Adam added. He also said she was a “leader” in the relationship, and the former Suits star is keen to ensure she’s the focus of the attention, from both her husband and onlookers
The couple controversially stepped down from their roles as senior working royals in January 2020, and settled down in a lavish mansion in Montecito, California. They have sparked rumours of a return to the UK in recent weeks, after King Charles announced he had been diagnosed with cancer, prompting Harry to make a desperate dash to be by his father’s side after news broke
