The ‘Mesmerize’ Rapper, However, Calls Billboard And VIBE’s 50 Greatest Rappers Of All Time List Meaningless ‘Because Music Is Subjective.’
Ja Rule might be annoyed that he’s been left off Billboard and VIBE’s 50 Greatest Rappers of All Time list. Still, it doesn’t stop the “Mesmerize” emcee from congratulating those who were on the list.
The 47-year-old offered his two cents when appearing on “The Tamron Hall Show” this week. “I’m not a hater. Congrats to everyone on the list,” he said. “[But] these lists, they’re meaningless because music is subjective. You like who you want to like, you know everybody has their favorite artist.”
“But my thing was: this is a list comprised by Billboard. They do numbers and statistics, if I’m not mistaken,” he added. “Ok so, that list is impossible to make without Ja Rule being on it-statistically impossible.”
Ja Rule went on to note, “There are artists that don’t have number one records, don’t have number one albums.” He then stressed, “I’m not knocking anybody on the list because, like I said, music is subjective. And when it comes to some of the older artists, you kind of got to go by different metrics because they didn’t have the sales. But I said what I said.”
Ja Rule also addressed his previous declaration about signing a new label deal “potentially worth $100 million.” He said people need to mind their business in 2024 while admitting he’s tired of being the better man and taking the high road, adding, “That road is backed up.”
On January 4, Ja Rule stated on X (formerly Twitter), “Just signed my new label deal potentially worth a hundred mill… LFG!!!” He then added, “Thanks for the love and to the haters SMD.”
The post has since drawn mixed reactions from Internet users, with some of them joking about his neverending feud with 50 Cent. In response to a fan who wrote, “Let’s respark up the fued with 50,” the New York emcee replied, “Loser mentality… That’s beneath me!!!”
Another individual criticized Ja Rule by writing, “Giving you100mill unless it for your catalog.” Catching wind of the comment, he penned, “imagine saying no one giving me 100 mill unless it’s for my catalog which I OWN and is actually worth OVER 100 mill.”
